Terms of use

Version 2026-10-21.2 · updated on 21 octobre 2026

1. Purpose

Hunterology is a community ranking platform for achievement hunters. Hunterology is an independent project, not affiliated with Valve Corporation or Steam.

2. Account

  • One account per person. Usernames must remain respectful; Hunterology may ask for a change.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password confidential.
  • A Steam account can only be linked to one Hunterology account.

3. Ranking and score

The score is calculated from achievement rarity, according to rules published on the site. Games recognised as “achievement spam” may be excluded from the score.

To appear in the ranking, your Steam profile and game details must be public: Hunterology must be able to check your achievements and playtime. A private profile is removed from the ranking, and its points frozen, until it is public again.

4. Cheating, fraud and sanctions

  • Steam Achievement Manager (SAM) and any tool that unlocks achievements artificially are strictly forbidden. Their confirmed use leads to the permanent ban of the account, without prior warning, the removal of all its points, and a ban of the Steam account involved: it can no longer be used to sign up or be linked to a Hunterology account.
  • Also forbidden: account impersonation and circumventing a sanction.
  • Hunterology automatically analyses unlocks (timestamps, playtime, unlock order and pace). A suspicious game may be placed in quarantine : its points are suspended during a human review. A highly suspicious account may be removed from the ranking and the community during that review.
  • A ban for cheating is only issued after a moderator reviews the evidence and an administrator validates it. The reason is given to the player.
  • Any decision can be appealed from the contact form (category “Appeal a sanction”). A ban for cheating can be appealed only once; the team’s answer is then final.
